Northeast Wisconsin is a unique and beautiful region, rich in soil, water, and life. Generations of families have called this place home, leaving behind a natural heritage that enriches the lives of those who follow. Here, people deeply value the land, water, and outdoors, recognizing that protecting these resources keeps our region clean, livable, and beautiful.
With over 80% of Wisconsin’s land privately owned, families play a vital role in caring for our natural world. The Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust empowers landowners to protect their land, preserving the healthy beauty of our region for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re considering land conservation, we’re here to help. Our team provides all the information you need to make informed decisions. We carefully collaborate with landowners, focusing only on projects that benefit everyone—landowners, the Trust, and the land itself.
We work exclusively with willing landowners who wish to preserve their land. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just local people dedicated to protecting local places.

Leave a Lasting Legacy
Land preservation through Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust is a permanent solution. Whether the property is held by private owners or by Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust, the land’s intrinsic value remains intact. Conserved land provides a habitat for diverse wildlife, protects water quality, and makes our region more resilient to the challenges of climate change – and this is forever. Leaving a legacy of this kind is invaluable. Families and individuals who conserve land are giving a gift that will have positive impacts on our world for generations.
Tax Benefits of Conservation
Landowners who donate land or conservation easements to a qualified conservation organization, like Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust, may be entitled to receive significant tax benefits. Under the Enhanced Conservation Easement Tax Deduction (2015), a landowner conserving natural land can deduct 50% of their income with an additional carry forward period of 15 years. Landowners considering the gift of a conservation easement should consult with their own legal or tax advisors to learn how the gift may benefit them financially.
