When asked why I am involved with and support NEWLT I can always answer the question without hesitation: it is the best way to play a part in protecting our local, natural environment. Every donation helps preserve environmentally valuable land in our area and allows me to also be an active steward of clean water, and our native plant and animal life.
There are, of course, national organizations working to protect our environment through legislation and litigation. We also have local nature preserves that each focus on their particular acreage of undeveloped land with a focus on providing a location for experiencing our natural landscape and accompanying educational opportunities. However, our Land Trust is constantly acquiring swaths of land that have environmentally valuable qualities. My dollars and volunteer efforts contribute to an ever-increasing amount of land that will be preserved in perpetuity. These are lands within watersheds that are critical to protecting our water supply. These are lands with environmentally significant vegetation that are vital to our ecosystem. These are lands on which our local wildlife depend.
We are all fortunate to have NEWLT tirelessly doing the complex work necessary to determine which land is best to protect, where we can find partners in preserving this land, and how to steward the land into the future. NEWLT is likewise looking out for us, our environment and our well-being for generations to come.
